About Space Cats

Space Cats is a journaling ttrpg for solo or group play about building a new home. This game was created for the Cozy Cat Game Jam, which centers around the idea of cozy and cats. I wondered, since the idea of “cozy” is so tied to place, what would cozy mean in a completely new location? A new neighborhood, new community, new city– even a new planet. What does cozy mean away from Earth? Away from everything you’ve ever known? What do you take with you? What do you leave behind? How do we move from the discomfort of newness to the safety of home? How do we get to cozy? This game tries to explore that through journaling prompts and rolling dice. And also you’re a cat. Meow!

When I was writing this game, I had just relocated my family and I across the country to a new state, far away from our home of many years. I’m sure this is unrelated.

Materials

You will need the following materials:

• A way to journal
• Something to journal in
• A Rider-Waite tarot deck, just the major arcana
• This document
• (Optional) two percentile dice
• (Optional) a third dice that at least goes up to 10
• (Optional) cat ears to help get into character
